The UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP) takes place annually, bringing together global leaders to drive forward climate action. This year, COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11-22 November 2024.
COP29 is a crucial platform for Humana People to People to advocate for stronger climate action and showcase its vital contributions in advancing climate action. Our organisation tackles climate change by putting frontline communities in the Global South at the center, ensuring that local climate resilience and adaptation are prioritized. Additionally, Humana advances global efforts through the promotion of a circular textile economy through waste management and sustainable practices, highlighting the importance of inclusive, community-driven solutions in addressing the global climate crisis.
At COP29, Humana People to People will advocate for policies and actions that priotitize local knowledge and action as central to climate resilience strategies enhancing the adaptability of smallholder farming, forestry, and rural economies. By focusing on community-driven approaches, Humana empowers people to build their capacity through initiatives addressing water security, climate-smart agriculture, reforestation, and economic diversification, among others. These efforts strengthen resilience and improve the socio-economic conditions of those most impacted by climate change, ensuring solutions are inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in local realities.
Furthermore, Humana People to People will advocate at COP29 for a strong of a circular textile economy, highlighting the essential role of an effective global textile reuse chain in meeting climate goals. In addition to raising funds for our development projects, our second-hand clothing operations contributes to optimizing resource efficiency by extending garment life, reducing the need for new production, removing clothing from waste streams. This not only lowers CO₂ emissions but also creates green jobs and provides affordable second-hand clothing to communities worldwide.
