Humana are participating at the Transforming Education Summit 2022

Humana People to People are attending a United Nations organised event, Transforming Education Summit 2022 (TES 2022), to be held as a side event to the United Nations General Assembly. The event will start on 16 September and end on 19 September in New York. We will showcase our Humana People to People teacher training and vocational skills training programmes.
The UN Secretary-General will convene Heads of State and Government, together with youth, non-governmental actors and the private sector to the summit on transforming education during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. Transforming Education Summit 2022 (TES 2022) is being convened in response to a global crisis in education – one of equity and inclusion, quality and relevance. TES 2022 provides a unique opportunity to elevate education to the top of the global political agenda and to mobilize action, ambition, solidarity and solutions to recover pandemic-related learning losses and sow the seeds to transform education in a rapidly changing world.
The TES spotlights five areas (“Thematic Action Tracks”) that require greater attention and action to accelerate progress on the education 2030 Agenda and transform education: Inclusive, equitable, safe, and healthy schools; Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development; Teachers, teaching and the teaching profession; Digital learning and transformation and; Financing of education.
Each Thematic Action Track has key elements of transformation and key recommendations, informing it. The TES: Solutions Day, 17 September, aims to mobilize collective actions and initiatives around these Thematic Action Tracks, and all sessions and events are contributing to this objective.
We will take part in a panel session titled Greening Southern Africa TVET Ecosystems on 17 September between 1145hrs to 1245hrs. The panel session will mainly look at skills training under increasing climate change negative impacts on jobs and productivity. Our Humana People to People Chairman, Snorre Westgaard, is going to be one of five panellists who are two Ministers of Education from Zimbabwe and Malawi, a Director of Policies from International Labour Organisation and Senior Youth Advisor from African Union Commission.
Our teacher training colleges and other education institutions we work with prove that teachers have the power to transform education. However, education systems need to transform to support them - through better training and professional development, increased investment, improved working conditions, and by raising the status of the profession.
We train primary school teachers in education that is driven by sustainable development. We believe that the most important thing that our teachers can give their students is a zest for life and learning that leads to progress. Through our pedagogy at the teacher training colleges student teachers explore life in all its colour whilst learning. They experience a variety of different learning processes and become conscious of how and when learning takes place.
We have 49 teacher training colleges in operation. Since 1993, we have trained more than 57,000 dedicated teachers to work in public primary schools across Mozambique, Angola, Malawi, Guinea Bissau, Zambia, D. R. Congo and India. The training lasts between one and three years and schools are mainly boarding schools, with the exception of those in India.
We seek to inspire and complement public education, so that teachers, students, parents, education institutions, education officials and Ministries of Education can draw inspiration from direct and indirect collaboration with the Humana People to People teacher training colleges and other education projects.
