The sustainable management of the used textile and the social projects that become reality thanks to the resources obtained with it have played today the 9th edition of the Week of Corporate Social Responsibility in Catalonia. Caprabo and Humana presented their successful alliance in Barcelona this morning in a round table focused on the circular economy and the recovery of waste.
The collaboration between the supermarket chain and the Foundation goes back several years, with the installation of containers in Caprabo stores so that their customers and customers can deposit the textile they do not use. Thanks to the resources derived from the management of donations, the company supports several social agriculture initiatives as part of its sustainability and CSR program. One of these initiatives is the 3C of Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona).
Satisfaction for the results achieved
"We are very satisfied with the collaboration with Humana," said Cristina Madrilley, from CSR and Environment at Caprabo; "Social gardens help users, they become therapeutic experiences for them. For this reason we are proud to unite the two concepts, that of the reuse of clothing with a social purpose and that of agriculture that puts the accent on people ". Madrilley has encouraged the more than 100 people attending the round table to contribute to turning a waste into a resource: "If you have clothes that you no longer use, you can donate it so that it has a social purpose".
During her participation at the table, Mariana Franzon, from the National Promotion Department of the Foundation, has contextualized the creation and development of the 3C urban agriculture program Cultivating Climate and Community, explaining that the origin is based on the experience accumulated in the Farmers Club of our development cooperation projects. In Spain, after four years since its launch, it has been consolidated with a dozen social gardens in Catalonia, the Community of Madrid and Andalusia, and a community of more than 500 activists among users, family and friends. "All this is possible thanks to the resources obtained with the management of the used textile," he recalled.
Franzon has listed the milestones achieved by the 3C Cornellà, one of the first orchard of the program and that has the second promotion of activists. In the first promotion, 10 tons of organic vegetables were produced, with an average of 235 kg per user. In addition, in 3C Cornellà there are not only activists but also collectives that are already part of the community, such as the Associació de Consumidors i Productors La Pastinaca, the Torre de la Miranda School and the Fundació Orienta - Hospital de Dia Miralta.
Together in the European Week of Waste Prevention
Cristina Madrilley has listed the visibility actions that Caprabo and Humana have carried out in recent years, related to the reuse of clothing and driven mainly around the European Week of Waste Prevention. He has cited the awareness workshops held in some supermarkets, the exhibitions installed in their stores or the distribution of informative flyers to customers and customers to encourage reuse. In this regard, he recalled that Caprabo won the European Prize for Waste Prevention last year for the project "I commit myself!", Which had the participation of Humana.
The round table, held at the Filmoteca de Catalunya facilities, was moderated by Marta Hidalgo, from the Catalan Office of Climate Change. In addition to Caprabo and Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo, representatives of Damm and Barcelona Municipal Services have participated, which have also presented inspiring experiences of reuse and circular economy.
