Lamine Dabo, Zach Roger Zambrano and Pau Ignasi Freixedas are three new colleagues who are part of the Humana staff in Ametlla del Vallès. A couple of months ago they joined the team of the preparation plant for reuse and are an excellent example of how the management of textile waste generates green employment.
They are between 19 and 23 years old, and live in the municipalities of Canovelles, Les Franqueses and Granollers, very close to the Foundation's facility in l'Ametlla del Vallès. What is their history and how did they get to Humana? The origin is to be found in the Fundación Universitaria Martí l’Humà, whose headquarters are in La Garriga, a few kilometers from the places mentioned. Among other activities, this entity promotes an initiative called "Singulares", specialized in training and capacitating young people who have left school and are unemployed.
Self-knowledge and knowledge of the work environment
Derived from the municipal area of councils, the Public Employment Service of Catalonia or other public services, young people attend this course for 10 months which helps them develop their skills and find a job opportunity. "The objective of the program is to empower the participants through group and individual sessions of self-knowledge and knowledge of the socio-labor environment, with dynamics to expose themselves to situations of competence recognition, specific training appropriate to the objectives and accompaniment in the investigation. As a result, they define their professional objectives and plan the actions to achieve them, always accompanied by a team that adds resources to their efforts", explains the director of the foundation, Jordi Salayet.
Visit to the Humana plant in Ametlla del Vallès
Throughout each course, they make visits to companies and entities in the environment to learn about the labor reality in their own region; that's how a group of young people from the "Singulares" program got to know Humana day by day. About 20 boys and girls toured the facilities of the Ametlla del Vallès plant, asked questions about the characteristics of each job and acquired first-hand information about the destination of the used clothes that are collected and classified in Catalonia .
The impact of the visit was very positive given that, a few days later, several of them sent their resumes to Humana's human resources department: they were cited, underwent a selection process and finally three hires were made. Lamine Dabo and Zach Roger Zambrano have joined the classification team, and Pau Ignasi Freixedas, the maintenance team.
"We are very happy", they say in unison, "the colleagues are very kind, we have integrated very well". HR confirms this happy integration and adds that they are doing an excellent job. Humana's workforce in Ametlla del Vallès is 70 people: the hiring of Lamine, Zach and Pau is a great example of the impact of textile waste management on the creation of green jobs.
Humana generates a quality job (indefinite full-time) for every 30,000 kg of recovered textiles.
