As we celebrate International Day of Education 24 January 2025, the world is facing a learning crisis despite global efforts to promote education for all and to end inequalities in education.
According to UNESCO’s statistical data, around the world, about 600 million children have not attained minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics, even though two thirds of them are in school.
Education is centred around people, not limited to institutions or technology, it’s about people coming together to promote quality education that equips children and youths with the education they need to thrive today and later in life.
ADPP Mozambique, a member of Humana People to People, operates 11 Teacher Training Colleges spanning across Mozambique for the past 30 years graduating more than 25,000 rural primary school teachers.
On this day, we take the opportunity to reflect on the journey and contributions for one of ADPP Mozambique’s Teacher Training College Chimoio.
Since its establishment 28 years ago, Teacher Training College Chimoio has graduated over 1,900 rural primary school teachers who are passionate educators, promoting new approaches to teaching and learning. The teachers are in the forefront of leading various sustainable development initiatives in the rural areas in which they live and work.
At the core of Teacher Training College Chimoio is our Humana People to People Pedagogy that places the students in the middle of the reality they are going to work in and lets them cooperate to all sides to make the best possible school: with the children, parents, colleagues and community members.
Teacher Training College Chimoio continues to work closely with former students through the Graduated Teachers Network. In 2024, the Graduates Teachers’ Networks for all the Teacher Training Colleges in Mozambique had more than 500 members working in 456 primary schools in 97 districts impacting over 170,000 students in the primary schools.
Teacher Training Chimoio aligns its self with SDG 4, 5 and 16 that prioritises learning for lasting peace through strengthening the relationship between students, teachers and the whole community to build cohesive societies.
We recognise the need to redouble education efforts in Mozambique, continue to share synergies with partners to instil hope, strength and courage needed in rural communities where education inequality is felt the most, to forge a collective positive path towards achieving education for all.
