Fernando More and Humana: sustainable fashion upcycling capsule

29-10-2021

Humana and the designer Fernando More present on Friday, November 5 at Siniestro Café (Conde Duque, 5, Madrid) an upcyclyng proposal based on disused garments - destined for recycling - from the Foundation's Reuse Preparation Plant in Leganés.

The initiative, which is entitled "Cápsula Upcycling", is the result of the collaboration between the entity and the Argentine designer: "I started with my brand more than 12 years ago in Buenos Aires and since then I have been working on recycling tailoring as a method morphological search and constructive exploration. Over the years I have understood that clothing has a value and the ability to transform and adapt to new stages, like us in life. Each garment that I design is born from a deconstruction or resignification and this is where I find my learning; each garment is unique and unrepeatable ”.

The Upcycling capsule is based on the idea of making visible how it is possible to extend the life cycle of garments, promote reuse and, thereby, help reduce the impact of the fashion industry. More himself selected, with the collaboration of the Humana team, the garments on which he has created the designs for the collection. These garments were destined for recycling, since their condition prevented their reuse without the prior intervention of More.

The designer has had the collaboration of the plastic artist Federico Antelo. "Color is the main engine of Federico's work, together with the geometric shapes that he handles through overlays and color contrasts", explains More, who adds: "The main idea of this action is to make the textile with cold tones as it can be related to the tailoring or jeanería, take on a new life through color and the mixtures of such powerful techniques ”.

The ‘Human Capsule’ is a stylistic and design exercise and a call to action in favor of sustainability, based on the transformation of garments destined for recycling that take on a new life and become fashion.

The exhibition starts on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Siniestro Café, located on Calle Conde Duque, 5, in Madrid.

Humana has 44 secondhand fashion stores in Spain, 22 of them in Madrid, including 3 spaces dedicated 100% to vintage fashion. Secondhand fashion is the most accessible door to sustainable fashion, because the most sustainable garment is the one already manufactured.
