Textile Waste Management Strategy in Catalonia

The presentation of the Strategy for the Prevention and Management of Municipal Textile Waste in Catalonia, of the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (ARC), took place on March 5. It is one of the first actions the action plan that aims to improve the prevention, collection, reuse and recovery of this fraction. These types of strategies represent a very important step towards the promotion of a circular model, laying the foundations for a more ambitious and inclusive used textile management.
The Department of Territori i Sustainability, through the European project CirCe Interreg Europe of which Catalonia is a partner, officially announced the promotion of a Voluntary Agreement for the sector. The initiative could lay the foundation for future regulatory developments.
Simbitex industrial symbiosis project
Mariana Franzon, from the Department of Promotion of Humana, was able to present, together with CESPA GR, of the Grupo Ferrovial, a partner of the Foundation, one of the four good practices of circular economy of the textile sector disclosed. During the presentation the results of the Simbitex industrial symbiosis project, co-financed by the ARC itself, were shown. Likewise, the Veritas ecological supermarket chain explained its selective textile collection project through reverse logistics in which Humana has also participated.
Finally, a working session took place with authorized management organizations in Catalonia to try to improve the traceability of textile flows, and open spaces for dialogue about their management among all the actors in the value chain.
