Access to and efficient use of water is a fundamental pillar for sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty. This was demonstrated by a workshop recently held in Ecuador, within the framework of a project co-financed by AECID and implemented by Humana and its local partner in Ecuador, the Fundación Humana Pueblo a Pueblo.
At the Quisapincha parish center, the Fundación Humana Pueblo a Pueblo Ecuador recently held a workshop on efficient water, irrigation, and humidity management, organized in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. This activity was aimed at families from the Tungurahua and Quisapincha Farmers Club, who are part of the School of Trainers for Family Farming (AFC).
The event was attended by 36 people participating in the project "Promoting Social, Economic, and Cultural Empowerment and Leadership among Kichwa Women in the Province of Tungurahua, Ecuador," funded by AECID, Humana, and our counterpart in Ecuador.
Access to and efficient use of water is a fundamental pillar for sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty. Many rural communities, especially among Kichwa women practicing family farming, face challenges related to the availability and proper use of water.
Through this workshop, they shared knowledge and practical tools on water management, irrigation techniques, and moisture conservation so that farming families can sustainably improve crop productivity.
In addition, they promote the leadership of Kichwa women in decision-making within their communities and in the agricultural sector, contributing to their autonomy and resilience in the face of climate change.
