The staff of ADPP Mozambique continues to work intensively in the District of Nhamatanda in the assistance and emergency work after the devastating passage of the Cyclone Idai, which has been completed for more than a month.
After a first phase in which efforts were concentrated on the distribution of emergency kits, a training plan was put in place by the Mozambican Ministry of Health on behalf of the people involved in the Farmers Club and volunteers. to develop an information and awareness campaign on hygiene and health among the affected communities.
Subsequently, a cholera vaccination program has been initiated. It is an acute diarrheal disease caused by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the Vibrio cholerae bacillus. If it is not treated quickly and properly, it can cause death within a few hours.
The passage of the Idai is causing the contamination of many sources of drinking water, so the chances of getting cholera are great. According to the World Health Organization "the key to preventing this disease, controlling it and reducing potential victims is to adopt a multidisciplinary approach based on surveillance, water, sanitation and hygiene, social mobilization, treatment and vaccination oral".
