17,946 tons of textiles recovered in 2023

In 2023, Humana recovered a total of 17,946 tonnes of textiles through its network of 5,300 containers. All of this with the support of more than 1,000 collaborating municipalities and private entities.

Of this amount, 12,830 tonnes were prepared for reuse at the Foundation's plants in Leganés (Madrid) and Ametlla del Vallés (Barcelona).

Distribution of processed textiles

The distribution of processed textiles last year in both plants was as follows:

  • 22% is textiles for reuse in Spain, through Humana stores
  • 41% is textiles for reuse outside Spain
  • 28% is recyclable textiles
  • 3% is textile waste for energy recovery
  • 1% is recyclable non-textile waste, such as plastics or cardboard
  • 5% is textile waste for disposal

Next Generation EU funds

During 2023, Humana has implemented a series of improvements to its facilities at the Leganés preparation plant for reuse to optimize the storage work for processed textiles.

At the same time, the software for controlling the processes for preparing textiles for reuse at this same plant is being improved. All of this with NextGenerationEU recovery funds through the corresponding call for proposals from the Community of Madrid.
